WALSH STREET
This property is located
in South Yarra in a street described by the Weekend Australian Financial Review
as Melbourne’s most expensive residential land. This property was purchased with an existing
house which had redeeming historical elements of character displayed to the front
of the premises but less redeeming construction extensions and attachments for
the bulk of the house behind the front facade.
The client also appreciated
the character of the front façade and French terracotta tiled roofing and a
collaborative decision was made to retain and upgrade the aesthetic treatments
of the façade and demolish the rest. Pre-used
French terracotta tiles with a similar patina were sourced in Victoria to
maintain the continuity of material for the expanded roof lines. A new
residence was created reflective of the unique character envisaged as the
intent of the original home.
